Description of Duties

As a Monitor a candidate may be asked to:

  • Cart and shelve Library materials.
  • Gather and shelve material that accumulates on book carts, tables, shelves, and study carrels.
  • Shelf reading (making sure that materials are in the correct order).
  • Empty the outdoor book drops including on weekends and holidays
  • Answer the phone and direct calls to the appropriate individuals
  • Fax materials to other libraries and to patrons.
    At times, in order to perform assigned duties to this position, you may be asked to push a full book cart which can weigh up to 40lbs, twist, bend, kneel, reach, walk or stand for extended periods. May be scheduled at other branches.

Requirements:

Knowledge of basic arithmetic using whole numbers and the Dewey Decimal System
Ability to perform extensive alphabetizing beyond the first letter of a word.
Ability to converse courteously in person and using other methods of communicationAbility to comprehend and follow written and/or oral one-or-two step instructions

Requirements:

Either title requires a Master's degree in Library or Information Sciences in a library program accredited by the American Library Association or from a New Jersey College Master' program in Library Science that has been deemed acceptable by Thomas Edison State College.  Possession of a NJ Professional Librarian Certificate issued by Thomas Edison College or the credentials and willingness to obtain a NJ Professional Librarian Certificate upon hiring.  Librarian 2 also requires: One year of full time equivalent professional librarian experience.  *Experience/Interest in programming and collection development for infants through grade 4 is extremely desirable.   Appointee may be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

Description of Duties:

The 2 computer centers in the M. Allan Vogelson Regional Branch of the Camden County Library System house a total of 38 networked PCs.  These centers are used by the public for access to the Internetas well as word processing and other popular application software.  One computer center is also used for workshops.

Primary duties include, butare not limited to: assisting patrons with software (Microsoft Windows, Office, Internet Explorer) in a courteous and professional manner; troubleshooting and maintaining supplies; performing opening and/or closing procedures as scheduled; operating a cash register; scheduling patrons as necessary for workshops; maintaining order in the computer centers; and performing tasks as requested by supervisor.

 Requirements:

Knowledge of general vocabulary and spelling.  Knowledge of standard English grammar; for example syntax, punctuation, verb agreement, or tense.  Knowledge of basic computer literacy. Knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, and Internet access very helpful. Appointee may be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
