Genealogy
The Camden County Library does not specialize in genealogical research materials. Many of our books describe generally how to do genealogical research or pertain to a specific ethnic group or country. Many researchers will find more of the information they are seeking on specific individuals at the two historical societies that collect information on this area of New Jersey: the Camden County Historical Society in Camden and the Gloucester County Historical Society in Woodbury (Camden County was part of Gloucester County until 1844). Their websites include a list of the holdings in their library collections including city directories, various card files of vital records, and much more. Both will do research for you for a fee.
You can access the Ancestry - Library Edition database at all branches of the Camden County Library System. Included are all of the U.S. censuses (some are surname indexed), city directories for various cities and years, and other useful information. If you have more questions about how to do your research please Ask a Librarian.
