Job Title:                             Library Assistant, 30 hr/pp,

                                           JP 011-15                                              

Department:                        Nilsa I. Cruz-Perez Downtown Branch - Camden City (Rutgers Campus)

Salary:                                 $11.7261 per hour

Schedule:                           Schedule includes days, nights and weekends.

Status:                                  Permanent after completing 90-day working test period

Description of Duties

Under general supervision, primary duties include performing a variety of public service tasks including but not limited to,

discharging and charging library materials, computing and collecting fines, registering customers for library cards and programs, processing holds,

answering general questions from the public, assisting customers in locating materials, shelving materials, assisting customers on the public computers and other related duties as required. May be scheduled at other branches.

Requirements:

Applicants must be able to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English
sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. 

Knowledge of basic arithmetic using whole numbers.

Ability to perform extensive alphabetizing beyond the first letter of a word.

Ability to converse courteously in person and using other methods of communication

Ability to comprehend and follow written and/or oral one-or-two step instructions

Knowledge of Millennium and Dewey Decimal System and Basic Computer Skills a plus.

Appointee may be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

Applications of current employees will be reviewed first, then, other applications will be reviewed in the following order:  residents of Camden County, Contiguous County Residents, NJ State Residents.   If the chosen applicant is a not a New Jersey resident, he or she must become a bona fide New Jersey resident to be appointed to the position within the timeframe designated by the Library, not to exceed one year.

Schedule:             Every other Saturday;  days and evenings required; schedule may change based on Library needs

Status:                  Permanent after 90 day working test period

Salary:                  22.9904/hr

Schedule:            Days, Afternoons, Evening & Weekends Required (Occasional Holidays)

                            Schedule based on Library needs

Status:                 Permanent after 90 days, if applicable

Description of Duties

The Adult Services Department of the Camden County Library is seeking an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and creative Librarian who loves to work with the public. Duties include, but are not limited to, adult reference services (answering reference and reader’s advisory questions using both print and electronic resources; providing instruction in the use of the catalog and databases and collection development). Additional duties include developing, scheduling and conducting: a diverse format of adult programs, community outreach and library sponsored computer training, all in conjunction with other staff; other duties as required.

Requirements:

A Master's degree in Library or Information Science in a library program accredited by the American Library Association or from a New Jersey College Master's Program in Library Science that has been deemed acceptable by Thomas Edison State College. Prior experience in Childrens programming and circulation functions helpful.
