VOORHEES, NJ – Oct. 1, 2013 – The Camden County Library System will expand what is already one of the largest used book sales in South Jersey when it holds its three-day fall book sale at its Voorhees Branch, Thursday, Oct 17 – Saturday, Oct. 19.

M. Allan Vogelson Regional Library Branch Manager William Brahms reports the library will be using over 80 tables set up to display and sell its largest selection of used books, DVDs, CDs, audio-books and video tapes. He said the library has received a number of large donations from estates including an extensive manga collection for this year’s sale.

“About ninety percent of the items are donated by customers, collectors and estates, with used library materials making up only about ten percent of the items at the sale,” Brahms said.

Books lovers and bargain hunters have always been attracted to the library’s semi-annual sales, but turnout and the number of items sold has been increasing steadily in the last few sales.

Brahms speculates, “I think the demise of store chains like Borders and other brick and mortar book stores has created a real demand for the quality materials we offer at our sales. We are really filling a void left by the changing book publishing industry.”

Having managed 20 previous book sales at the Voorhees library, Brahms said they are adding more tables with the intention of displaying as much as fifty thousand items during the three-day sale that starts Thursday, Oct. 17, 10 a.m. He notes that several large donations from estates will be attractive to collectors and book lovers from all around the tri-state area.

“The Library took in over $19,000 in two days at our 2013 Spring book sale.  This gives an idea of the magnitude of our sales when most items were priced between 25 cents and two dollars.  That’s an enormous amount of material moved,” stressed Brahms who added, “And our Fall Sale promises to be even bigger.” He noted the library eventually donated thousands of leftover items to charities, non-profit efforts and educational institutions after past sales.

All proceeds from the book sales go directly to support programming for customers at all of the library system’s eight branches.

The M. Allan Vogelson Regional Branch Library is located at 203 Laurel Road across from the Voorhees Town Center, which is 14 miles from Philadelphia, ten miles from Camden and next to Cherry Hill. Directions can be found on the library website at
