VOORHEES, NJ – June 18, 2015 – The Camden County Library System is once again joining a nationwide partnership between Macy’s stores and Reading is Fundamental in their Be Book Smart campaign to provide all children with access to quality books.

The M. Allan Vogelson Regional Branch in Voorhees is serving as a local impact site for the campaign through which it will receive books to be given to children. The Vogelson Branch library has been specifically paired with the Macy’s store in the Voorhees Town Center.

How the Campaign Works and How You Can Help

This year, Be Book Smart will run from June 21 to July 12 at Macy’s stores nationwide. The campaign provides an opportunity for Macy’s customers to support RIF by giving $3 at any register and receiving a $10 coupon to use on their in-store purchase of $30 or more. Macy’s donates 100% of every $3 to RIF, and RIF allocates books to programs like the Voorhees library’s many reading programs for children that are free and open to the public.

RIF is the largest children’s literacy nonprofit in the United States.  As RIF enters the 12th year of its highly successful partnership with Macy’s, the organization is working hard to ensure all children have access to books.

Library gave books to kids & won collection

Last year M. Allan Vogelson Branch Library earned 357 books though RIF. It purchased board books and gave them directly to children at its Big Play Date last fall and the Children’s Day celebration at the Camden Children’s Garden in May.

The partnership between the Macy’s store in the Voorhees Town Center and the library was so successful, RIF awarded a separate, special 40- book multicultural collection to the library as the store sold the most Be Book Smart coupons in its district during the 2014 campaign.

Camden County Library System Director Linda Devlin stresses the importance of partnerships like the Be Book Smart campaign, “When a business like Macys and its customers partner with local libraries, it sends a clear message about how important early literacy is to the whole community. Efforts like these reflect well on the local stores and communities that participate.”
