VOORHEES, NJ – June 26, 2014 – Emily Moore, the Head of Children’s Services at the Voorhees branch of the Camden County Library System in New Jersey, was recognized as a “Rising Star” by the New Jersey Library Association on Tuesday, June 3 at its annual conference in Atlantic City.

The NJLA designed the award for librarians who have been working in the profession five years or less and demonstrate great promise, potential, innovation and creativity.

Moore was presented the award during a special reception, a highlight of the three-day annual conference held the past two years at the Revel Resort Casino Hotel in Atlantic City, NJ.

“Emily has a great amount of potential for the future.  She is bright, talented and determined.  She possesses natural leadership ability and an enthusiasm and passion for librarianship,” said Linda Devlin, director of the Camden County Library System.  “She is indeed a “rising star”, not only within the Camden County Library System, but in her profession as well.”

Devlin noted how Moore organized a very successful Big Play Date in late March for children, parents and other caregivers modeled after an event at the Brooklyn Public Library. With the help of the Voorhees Regional Library’s staff and others, the program was successful in showing how caregivers can use simple, everyday-items around the house to play and interact with their children in a meaningful way. Studies have shown that such play can help aid a child’s development. The program was attended by over 200 children, parents and other caregivers.
