VOORHEES, NJ – July 23, 2015 – It’s seven thirty in the evening. The kids have just come in from playing, enjoying a fine autumnal twilight. Now your nine-year-old tells you she has a report due comparing and contrasting the arctic and Antarctic as habitats. She started the assignment in class two weeks ago and was supposed to finish it as homework, but she forgot to note it in her assignment planner. Now, it’s due the day after tomorrow.

With the start of another school year, it’s useful to know how much reliable information students and parents can find to do homework from any Internet connection through services offered by the Camden County Library System. Kid’s Zone is a special section on the library’s website that includes homework help in a variety of forms for younger students.

Go to the library’s home page at and click on ‘Using the Library’ at the top where you will find the Kids Zone menu that includes a link to the Homework Help page.

The library is again providing library cardholders free access to the services of Students can get one-on-one, online tutoring to help with their homework questions at There is also a link to in the left-hand column on the Homework Help page.

The Homework Help page also includes a link to our Ask a Librarian service available by email, telephone or onsite at one of the library’s eight branches: Bellmawr, Gloucester Twp., Ferry Ave. (Camden), Haddon Twp., Merchantville, Cruz-Perez (Camden-Downtown), South County (Winslow Twp.) or Voorhees.

In addition the Homework Page  has a variety of websites that are great sources of information for students to use on their own. For example Searchasaurus enables students and their parents to search thousands of articles. It has an online general encyclopedia and an animal encyclopedia that offers a lot of information about animals from around the world.

According to EBSCOhost, the online publisher of Searchasaurus, it offers an animated interface with a dinosaur theme that encourages young researchers to develop their basic search skills. The Homework Help page also offers Primary Search, a database geared to finding age-appropriate magazine articles for children.

Some of the sources on Kids Zone like Searchasaurus are labeled “Subscription Database” that  require a barcode number found on the back of any valid CCLS library card, but many of the online sources do not require a card and are accessible from any Internet connection at

Students and parents who take the time to explore Kids Zone now will be able to find homework help when they need it during the school year. So check it out.
