Changing times portrayed in costume and character

VOORHEES, NJ – May 30, 2012 – Visitors to the Merchantville branch of the Camden County Library System were treated to the customs of a formal 1908 tea. Rita Parisi, in full costume and assuming the persona Mrs. Jordan, discussed and presented a tea for the assembled ladies on May 16,2012.

The event started with the serving of sandwiches, tea and cookies after which the participants arranged fresh flowers in vases. Parisi then presented the life and times of a Mrs. Jordan in 1908 just when long established traditions were fading in the face of new inventions like the automobile and the airplane. The changing social conventions marked the beginning of the end for the Victorian era.
