VOORHEES, NJ – Nov. 22, 2016-- You can make a difference in the life of an adult who wants to learn to speak English or improve his or her reading and math skills.

Literacy Volunteers of Camden County is seeking volunteers to be trained as tutors.  A free Tutor Training Workshop will be held at the  Camden County Career One-Stop Center located at 2600 Mount Ephraim Ave., Suite # 105, Camden, NJ 08104 on three consecutive days starting Monday, Dec. 5 to Wednesday, Dec. 7, 10 a.m. – 12 noon.

No experience is necessary, just the willingness to reach out and help a motivated learner.  These sessions will only concentrate on Basic Literacy (for adults who want to acquire elementary reading and math skills). Tutors will learn how to determine an instructional starting point as well as how to tutor utilizing LVCC methods and materials.

Call Literacy Volunteers of Camden County at (856)772-1636 ext. 7331 for more information or sign up online at http://www.camdencountylibrary.org/become-a-tutor .

ABOUT LITERACY VOLUNTEERS OF CAMDEN COUNTY:

LVCC provides free one-on-one and small group tutoring in reading, math and English for Speakers of Other Languages to Camden County adults at the lowest levels of literacy.  Many Camden County residents lack functional English literacy skills and this impedes their ability to acquire productive employment, assist their children in schoolwork and become active community members.  Literacy Volunteers of Camden County addresses this problem by training local volunteers to instruct these adults using a flexible, learner-centered approach.  This year LVCC has over 160 volunteer tutors working with 200 students.
