VOORHEES, NJ – April 23, 2015 – They say a picture is worth a thousand words and that certainly is the case with the colorful illustration that adorns a Camden County Library delivery van that makes the rounds among the library system’s eight branches each day.

The New Jersey Library Association agreed the illustration is worthy of notice after the library had submitted photos of the van for the association’s 2015 Public Relations Award that was announced at its annual conference this week in Long Branch, NJ.

Each year the NJLA seeks out prime examples of PR work that are judged on the effectiveness of the message for a target audience, originality, creativity of design and aesthetic appeal.

Camden County Library System Director Linda Devlin decided to nominate the van for the award earlier this year. “I think the van illustration is a wonderful way to get the public’s attention and advertise what our libraries have to offer. It effectively captures the spirit of our moto ‘Dream, Explore, Imagine’.

“Its colorful presence on our local roadways is a welcome sight this spring after the long, hard winters we’ve all endured. The van illustration is an invitation and a reminder to visit your local library,” explains Devlin.

“The colorful Camden County Library van never fails to bring a smile to your face, much like the books it delivers bring enjoyment to children and adults,” adds Camden County Freeholder Carmen Rodriguez, liaison to the Camden County Library System.  “We appreciate the recognition from the New Jersey Library Association for this project and for our literacy program that is opening a world of opportunity for those learning to read.”

NJ Connection - About the Artist

The eye-catching van illustration was created by New Jersey artist Dan Fenelon. He trained at the Arts Student League in NY and the Museum School of Fine Arts in Boston. Fenelon has had eighteen one-man shows in galleries from Chelsea NYC to LA California. He has produced giant murals in different states and had a featured mural exhibit at the Montclair Art Museum.

His newest exhibit starts Thursday, April 23, 2015, at Lanyon 36 Gallery in New York City (365 W. 36 St., NY 10018) and runs until May 23, 2015.

In 2012 Fenelon designed the ornaments for New Jersey’s tree at the National Christmas Tree Display in Washington DC. His artwork was also featured at Major League Baseball’s Fancave in NYC.

In 2010 Fenelon was commissioned to create a large scale mural to welcome the Dalai Lama to the Newark Peace Summit. In that same year he was commissioned to paint another large scale mural in the city of Grand Rapids MI.
