Free events featuring jazz, pop rock, classical ensembles and more

Singer and songwriter Sara O’Brien returns to perform at four different branches of the Camden County Library System in July as part of its Summer Music Festival.

VOORHEES, NJ – May 7, 2013 – To celebrate the Summer of 2013, the Camden County Library System is presenting a series of 16 live musical performances with each branch hosting two programs.

Offerings will include classical and jazz ensembles, electric violin, Motown songs, Broadway tunes, Irish music and more.  All the events are free and all ages are welcome making the programs something the whole family can look forward to sharing this summer.

Singer and song writer Sara O’Brien returns to the library to perform her pop-rock songs that appeal to all ages, telling stories of humor and tragedy and of her many experiences from the Jersey shore to the mountains of Ecuador.  She has shows scheduled in July at the South County, Bellmawr, Gloucester Twp. and Ferry Ave. branches. O’Brien is founder of Community Rocks, a non-profit organization formed to strengthen community and promote cross-cultural education and environmental awareness through music.

Jazz Offerings

Jazz fans will be treated to three performances by the New Earth Trio. Bass player Charles Williams, pianist Charles Davis and drummer Abe Speller offer contemporary music and modern style against the smooth backdrop of classic American music. The trio will play their special brand of soft jazz at the South County, Camden Downtown and Voorhees branch libraries.

A selection of jazz favorites and standards will also be performed by the Camden County College Jazz Ensemble this June at Voorhees, Merchantville and Ferry Ave. branches. These three programs are recommended for music lovers and for students interested in the music program at the college.

Classical Selections

“We’ve always offered extensive summer reading programs for kids and teens, and now for adults the past few years, but we saw an opportunity to organize a summer-long musical festival as another way to meet the recreational and educational needs of county residents, which is part of our mission as one of the largest library systems in the South Jersey,” said Camden County Library Director Linda Devlin.

Individuals and families are welcome to register for any of these free events online at www.camdencountylibrary.org/events . Registration is available three weeks in advance of an event date.
