VOORHEES, NJ – Dec. 10, 2014 – The Camden County Library is pleased and proud to report its annual Books for Kids holiday campaign has set a new record this year by collecting 3,274 books. It broke the old record of 2,873 set in 2012 by over 400 books.

Each of the library system’s eight branches collected books from Nov. 3 to Dec. 6, 2014. The annual appeal asks the public to donate new or gently used books to be given to children throughout the county.

“Our customers acknowledge the importance of reading by donating books to our holiday book campaign.  Their generosity helps to foster and develop a love of reading in children who may not have enough books of their own at home to read,” says Camden County Library System Director Linda Devlin.

Pat Dempsey, a graphic artist in the library’s public relations department who organizes the book drive each year, credits her assistant Lynn Datz for making the campaign a success. “She counted, labeled and helped box all 3,274 books,” notes Dempsey.

The new and gently-used books will be distributed by Camden County Children’s Services Department to kids across the county in time for the holidays.
