Can hundreds of bargain hunters, book lovers, collectors set a new 2-day record?

The Camden County Library’s spring book sale always attracts a lot of bargain hunters, book lovers and collectors as did  this one in June 2014. This year’s two-day sale starts Friday, June 12 at 10 a.m. (Camden County Library photo/Mark Amorosi)

VOORHEES, NJ -  June 1, 2015-- The Camden County Library System will stage one of the largest used-book sales in South Jersey on Friday, June 12, 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. and Saturday, June 13, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at its regional branch library in Voorhees.

Typically hundreds of book-lovers, bargain hunters and book dealers from the tristate area are attracted to the event where 99 percent of the items will be priced between fifty cents and two dollars, with nothing over three dollars, according to William Brahms, branch manager of the Voorhees library and chief organizer of the sale.

Depending on demand, the library is prepared to offer up 50 thousand books, CDs, DVDs, videos, books-on-tape and more for sale at drastically reduced prices. About ninety percent of the items are donated by customers, collectors and estates, with used library materials making up only about ten percent of the stock at the Spring Book Sale.

The library’s semi-annual sales have always attracted large numbers of shoppers, but turnout and the number of items sold has been increasing steadily during the last few sales. Brahms speculates, “I think the demise of store chains like Borders and other brick and mortar book stores has created a real demand for the quality materials we offer at our sales. We are actually now filling a void left by the changing book publishing industry.”

Last spring the sale collected over $16,750 during its two days, which was part of over $40,000 raised through various used-book sales at the library during the year.

“It’s a great cause and our customers are very supportive.  Our goal this time is $17,000 for the two days in June. I think we can do it as we are getting more great material to sell, each year,” adds Brahms.  All proceeds from the sale will go to support programs for customers of the Camden County Library System.

The M. Allan Vogelson Regional Branch Library is located at 203 Laurel Road across from the Voorhees Town Center which is 14 miles from Philadelphia, ten miles from Camden and next to Cherry Hill.
