VOORHEES, NJ – Dec. 14, 2012 – Customers of the Camden County Library System and local residents met the challenge to set a new record for giving the gift of reading by donating 2,873 books to the Books for Kids holiday campaign this year.

The new and gently-used books will be distributed by Camden County Children’s Services Department to kids across the county in time for the holidays.

“I felt confident our customers and the residents of Camden County would meet the challenge to break our old record of 2,000. And they did it in grand style, beating the previous record by about 43 percent,” says Linda Devlin, as director of the Camden County Library System.

Devlin notes the library supports reading for kids of all ages throughout the year with its broad collection of materials for younger customers. She adds the library system offers scores of programs each month designed for children, ‘tweens and teens. She points out the library’s Book Buddies programs have been growing in popularity and are offered at most branches. Book Buddies pairs teen volunteers with eager younger readers.

Also for kids, the library encourages parents to check out Read in the New Year programs scheduled at seven of the branches this year, says Devlin.

Registration and a calendar of program events at each branch is available online at www.camdencountylibrary.org/events  .
